Career/Experience

I am a British ex-pat who has lived in Germany for around 30 years, working in the fields of data processing, environmental protection and water management. I have in-depth knowledge in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
I was awarded the Diploma in Translation of the Institute of Linguists, London in 1998 and since 2001 I have been offering my services as a freelance translator.
The main part of my translation work has been in scientific/technical fields, assignments ranging from short passages to complex technical books. However, I have also successfully translated a very wide range of other texts such as a book on alternative money systems and an exposé for a film script.
I have experience in writing books myself and am well able to empathise and communicate with authors of all types.

Ich bin britischer Staatsbürger und wohne seit rund 30 Jahren in Deutschland. Meine Berufserfahrung erstreckt sich über die Gebiete der Datenverarbeitung, des Umweltschutzes und der Wasserwirtschaft. Ich verfüge über vertiefte Kenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Geographischen Informationsysteme (GIS).
1998 habe ich das Diploma in Translation des Londoner Institute of Linguists erhalten; seit 2001 biete ich meine Dienste als freiberuflicher Übersetzer an.
Berufsbedingt habe ich bisher überwiegend technisch-wissenschaftliche Texte bearbeitet, jedoch auch mit Erfolg an ganz anderen Projekten gearbeitet (z. B. Übersetzung eines Buchs über alternative Geldsysteme sowie eines Drehbuch-Exposé).
Ich habe selbst Bücher geschrieben und kenne daher gut die Belange von Autoren unterschiedlichster Werke.
