Curriculum Vitae

I was born in 1920, in the province of Poznan (now in Poland). At that time – after the first World War – The area transferred from Germany to Poland. My parents decided to move to Germany and live there.

My father was appointed as Rabbi for Emden (East Friesland) and the surrounding communities, and that is where my schooling began: elementary school and gymnasium, with the languages: Latin, French, and Greek.

In 1934 I transferred to a Jewish Seconary School in Breslau, languages: English, French, Latin, and Hebrew. I graduated in 1938.

There was severe prosecution of Jews by the German government at that time. I joined an agricultural training farm toward eventual immigration to Palestine. A period in the Buchenwald concentration camp ended my stay in Germany.

As a refugee in England, I continued with farming for some years, until I managed to get to Palestine in 1944, where I joined a Kibbutz (Tirat Tzvi). There I worked in various branches (both farming and administration) till 1983. Throughout this time I kept studying English and improving my knowledge of the language. (I was the interpreter during a visit, at the Kibbutz, of the Anglo-American-Inquiry-Commission in 1946.)

In the years 1953 – 1955, I was in England again, for youth leadership work, sent there by our Pioneering Organisation.

From 1983 I have worked increasingly in translating, between the three languages: English, German and Hebrew.

In my youth, I became well versed in the German classics, both at school and at home, by my parents.

In 1989 - 1992, I was in charge – together with my wife – of an old-age-home in German speaking Switzerland. That was an opportunity to rejuvenate my knowledge of what had been my mother-tongue. In addition to my work at the home, I was asked to guide tours of visitors to our village and lecture to them, naturally in German.

Translations of mine were printed in “Ort der Zuflucht und Verheißung – Shave Zion 1938 – 2008”. I also wrote a foreword in “...ein lebendes Beispiel für Menschenliebe”.

Generally, I have been writing translations in various fields: academic, contracts, certificates and documents, also newspaper articles.
