I believe that the other translator entered some French here by mistake.

If VORZEICHEN are taken into account (berücksichtigt) then the mathematical value or a field in computing etc. is "signed".

If the VORZEICHEN is NOT taken into account the value is "unsigned".

Even though you say it is an "automobile" expression it really should be a "mathematical" expression - at least, this is what my definition applies to.
