Rosanna Francischiello  See profile asked this question:

Language pair:

Italian > English

Subject:

Technical / Engineering

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

light emitting diode (more commonly LED)

Context:

would you use "a" or "an" before the acronym LED?

K. Bachem M.A.'s  See profile answer was rated best

an LED

My comment:

You have to use 'an' because of the pronounciation of LED: you start to pronounce it with a vowl and therefore 'an' is correct. The pronounciation goes like "elid"
