academic researcher

My comment:

I believe this would be more appropriate if the issue involved is at university level or a high-level research.

lecturer-researcher or professor-researcher

My comment:

depending upon the university title (lecturer or professor)

research fellow

My comment:

'enseignant-chercheur' is not yet a professor (professeur). This is rather someone who teaches but who is still in the process of preparing to receive a university degree, like a PhD

Research faculty (member) sounds good to me. I worked for Virginia Tech for 23 years and lots of faculty had both teaching and research appointments.
