Hi, Barbara. Look at the example sentence the dictionary provides: <the preaching of John the Baptist is generally regarded by Christians as a prefiguring of the ministry of Jesus>
I also believe you should somehow preserve the idea of a "gift from God" because of the context. The word "granted" I would use in a legal context, doesn't sound well in my ears here.
