Example of text:
Children are our heritage. The leaders of tomorrow. Adequate nutrition is vital for building children’s immune systems and for their motor and cognitive development. Yet about one in four children in the developing regions are underweight. The consequences of these can be fatal. More than one third of Childs death worldwide is attributable to under nutrition. In the developing world, the proportion of children under five years of age who are underweight declined by only five percentage points from 1990 to 2007 – from 31 percent to 26 percent. This rate of progress is insufficient to meet the goal of reducing underweight prevalence by half – even without taking into account higher food prices and the economic crisis that has developed in the meantime.
This calls for the initiation of breast feeding within one hour of birth, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, timely and appropriate complementary feeding from six months of age and continued breast feeding up for one year and beyond. Parenting low birth weight is also important. The nutritional status of mothers before and during pregnancy is a key determinant of the birth weight of her baby.
Birth weight, in turn, has a critical bearing on a newborn’s chances for survival, growth, long term health and psychological development.
