Lewis has been a professor and translator at the Language Center of the Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca since 2009. He was the Language Center's chief translator from 2009-2016, responsible for translating or coordinating the translation of documents (e.g., academic articles, transcripts, degrees, websites, formal letters, and birth certificates) for the university, both from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish. During that time, he was also the translator for the academic journal "Temas de ciencia y tecnología," as well as for the weekly university academic seminars from Spanish to English. He has lived in Mexico for over ten years, and his Spanish has been certified C2 (mastery) by the Instituto Cervantes's DELE exam.
He has translated three books from Latin to English for Cistercian Publications.
