I am a Singaporean of Chinese ancestry and have since 1988 been a freelance translator working from English into Chinese and vice versa. I am presently based in China.
I received my earlier formal education at Singapore's Chinese stream schools with Chinese as the medium (first) language and English the second. I later studied at the Singapore Polytechnic with English as the medium language.
During my earlier formal education, traditional Chinese (fan-ti-zi)
was used in Chinese language text books. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, all Chinese language text books, Chinese language newspapers in Singapore were under stautory requirements to use simplified Chinese (jian-ti-zi). I am therefore conversant in both.
I was engaged in numerous translation works and one of the major one being that of the Hainan Provincial Tourism Development Master Plan formulation project (from 2001 to 2002) undertaken by the Shankland Cox (Asia) Ltd that was assigned by the World Tourism Organisation.
