I'm a native Gaelic speaker from the Western Isles of Scotland.
My degree is in Microbiology, but I started working in broadcasting as a subtitler and translator. I worked almost exclusively as a translator in the Isle of Skye for three years, subtitling Gaelic language programmes in English and translating text between English and Gaelic. From Skye, I moved to London where I was eimployed as a subtitler working only occasionally on translation projects. After ten years of working for ITFC, I decided to go freelance. My first six months as a freelancer were spent working in-house for various clients before I purchased my own subtitling workstation. Since then I have worked mostly from home. Besides all the films and TV programmes, projects I have worked on include children's books, adult education textbooks, and government reports.
My main interests are in medical and biological sciences, geography and Scottish and Celtic history and mythology. I can speak and read a little German, French, Spanish and Welsh, but not to any great level of fluency
