Career / Experience

Borne and raised in South America by German parents made me a native speaker of both Spanish and German. In 1976 relocated to Germany and in 1979 German Abitur. From 1979 to 1982 student at the technical university of Braunschweig, Germany studying mechanical engineering as part of the studies for my degree as technical translator and interpreter with the education ministry of the state of Hessen, Germany.
During this period, I did work as a freelancer for the Peiner AG translating their complete technical documentation for their container handling equipment. Additionally I did translate their business and commercial papers and correspondence and worked as an interpreter assisting in technical trainings for customers and with their sales department I participated translating during business meetings and during social events.

In 1886 I was hired full time by National Semiconductor, later by Motorola Semiconductor and finally by Lucent Technologies. This enabled me to add translating from English to my two native languages German and Spanish. To my areas of expertise, I could add electronics and microelectronics, as well as telecommunication topics.

Since 2000 I have restarted to work as a freelancer adding working experience with jobs in the area of tourism, civil engineering, project documents and flyers for the EU, mechanical engineering and specially automotive.

I do work with mainly with SDL Trados 2007 and Across, but also other tools like Déjàvu X, Wordfast and others which have to be supplied by my customers. As I learned during my time with US companies, I have adopted a well-defined workflow to achieve sustained and repeatable quality output.

I can deliver up to 5,000 words per day and do require up to one day for every 15,000 words for my "final review" process step. I also use the tool of choice of my customers for QA to achieve well-correlated results.
