Festival Assistant, Portobello Film Festival, London, August 2006

• Front of House; dealing with the public, general enquiries, supporting the filmmakers at Westbourne Studio, assisting networking with filmmakers.

• Translated and wrote Transcripts for Films of Record and Rock hopper TV, which were used as subtitles for Documentaries and one was aired recently in BBC 2 titled Shari’ah in Nigeria.

• Researched, translated Hausa items to English for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This is an examination project for diplomats going to countries where Hausa is spoken. I also vetted and examined the papers.
• Read and recorded voice over for Communicaid.

• Translated and wrote Transcripts for Rock hopper TV.

Broadcast Assistant, BBC WORLD SERVICE: 2000-2006

• I translated News items from English into Hausa language, one of the 3 main languages in Nigeria and widely spoken in some West African countries, the Sudan and Egypt.

• Duties also included making payment to our Reporters overseas via SAP, answering listeners’ queries on phone and on air, this involves research and writing answers to listeners’ question.

• I co-presented and contributed on a number of programmes- BBC LEARNING ENGLISH ‘’lullaby’’ for BBC Radio 3, looking at the varieties of lullubies from different cultures and ‘’Cinderella’’, examining how this fairy tale is perceived in different cultures. The lullaby can be listened to at the BBC Radio 3 website. The lullaby was originally in Hausa and translated into English.

As a Broadcast Assistant, I was involved in production, organising and distributing schedules, organising all music of the output, archiving paperwork and programme content and also responsible for managing the payments to all freelance reports.

In addition I attended a variety of BBC Training for professional development, which include, interviewing skills, Radio Assistant courses, ITC skills-word excel to enhance my work and further develop my skills. These courses enabled me to conduct interviews, present and broadcast and edit programmes.
Through my work I have the proven ability to work under pressure and accommodate all inquiries regarding programmes and/or payments, being always the first point of call at the Hausa section.

My rates are £200 per 1000 words for translation and for interpreting it is £70.00 per hour and voice-over is £100 per hour
