Educational background

University of Oslo, Bachelor's degree in language - Chinese and Korean. 3 years studying Chinese, 1 year studying Korean. Several studies abroad: China, fall 2007, Peking University; China, fall 2008-spring 2009, Tsinghua University; Korea, fall 2009-spring 2010, Yonsei University.

Based on the language expertize accumulated from my studies I am fully able to perform professional translation work, translating Mandarin to Norwegian and vice versa. I am proficient in simplified Chinese characters, but also familiar with traditional characters. I have been learning English since the 3rd grade in elementary school all the way through high school, and all my curriculum at university has either been in English, Chinese or Korean. I speak English fluently, and can read and write without any problems.

In my 3 years of studying Mandarin Chinese I have been able to obtain enough knowledge about the language to be able to master it both written and spoken. I have no problems reading, writing or speaking Mandarin(putonghua). It is mainly through my studies in China that I have further developed my Chinese language skills as well as my knowledge of Chinese culture and society. Studying in China helped me reach an advanced Chinese language level. I am now working and living in Beijing, and my daily interactions with Chinese friends and people helps me to constantly improve my Chinese language skills even after graduation.

I am able to perform the following translations: Chinese to English, English to Chinese, Chinese to Norwegian, Norwegian to Chinese, Norwegian to English and English to Norwegian.

Relevant experience / employment

Localization Testing Engineer

Tasks as a testing engineer was to conduct tests on the software for a mobile device to make sure that it was free from functional and linguistic errors. Namely making sure that all the Norwegian translations where correctly implemented, not truncated or clipped, and that they where spelled correctly. It included making term change requests or suggesting different phrasing if the meaning of the translation where it occurred could be perceived as being confusing or unclear, suggesting using shorter words or abbreviations where space was an issue, and providing the correct translation and spelling when errors where discovered. In other words my job was to ensure that the device under test was functionally and linguistically sound, and that of a competitive market level quality.
