Work History
I worked as a professional full time Translator from 1993 to 1997 for the banking, financial and credit cards industries. After that I have worked as a freelancer Translator, Proofreader/Editor and Localization Specialist for several companies in Canada and the United States and for many translation agencies. I am a member of ATA (American Translators Association). I combine my job as Translator with my practice as IT Consultant. I lived in Canada for five years and I am currently living in the United States since 2003.

B.Sc. degree in Computers

Relevant experience in IT-related fields, Software/Hardware Localization, Computers, Telecommunications, Wireless, Networks as well as in Banking, Financial and Credit Cards Services, Legal, Marketing, Electric and Civil Engineering, Public Works, Transportation, Automotive, Medical/Public Health, Mining, Shipping and Educational projects. This wealth of experience permits me to handle a wide range of specialized translation projects, including Contracts, Presentations, User’s Guides, Manuals, Catalogues, Procedures, Software, on-line Help, Technical Specifications and Descriptions, as well as general office and administrative documents and letters. I am an experienced user of SDLX Trados 2007 (including the use and management of TMs and termbases), Wordfast and Catalyst 7.
As a native Spanish speaker, I specialize in translating from English to Spanish; this ensures a proper interpretation of terminology relating to specific products and/or services. To keep the translated materials accurate and meaningful I work with standard and customized glossaries that I keep updated with the latest linguistic, cultural and industry trends and idioms. This extensive research allows me to work in localization projects intended to different segments of the Hispanic world (the so-called International or Neutral Spanish, as well as US Latino-Mexican, Puerto Rican or Cuban). I am also able to produce documents in English that will satisfy your most exigent client.
Pricing / Other services
My rates for translation jobs are in the range of $0.05 to $0.15 USD/word. For proofreading/editing, my rates are around $0.01 to $0.03 USD per word. Ultimately, they will depend on the required turnaround time, and the complexity and length of the job, and thus they are negotiable. My normal output is 1500 to 3000 words/day. My hourly rate is $20.00 to $40.00 USD
