I've been working as a freelance translator for almost 5 years. Started as a outside employee in a sports TV station in my home town, translating text about the NFL, mostly.
Since my country is to small of a market, freelancing is the one of very few options for me. Private tutoring is another, but, to be honest, I never had the patience for that.
The good thing about my experience as a freelancer is that I've managed to translate texts, books, manuals etc. from almost all fields of interest.
Pricing / Other services
I am really uncomfortable with a fixed price. It really depends...
But, I think 0.05 $ is a fair starting point, unless it's something really short and quick.
