because of the vicinity/closeness of the natural environment and wide-open spaces

My comment:

I translated "la naturaleza" as "the natural environment." really "nature" and "natural environment" are interchangeable in many contexts. but, i prefer "the natural environment" to eliminate ambiguity.

i think vicinity is best followed by closeness.

because of the nearness of nature and the large spaces

My comment:

I am fairly sure, but not entirely, because the context is not obvious. I guess it means that someone or something is not visible clearly at the border between field an wilderness. Is that true?

Once more I would choose Barbara's option, using "environs" of course.
