the verb tense has to be pluperfect. As soon as I had + verb. Also, peak resistance sounds like a sports thing. This isn't sports. It's a person's resistance to doing something. And he wasn't reaching it, he had to overcome it.....so the meaning here is wrong.

And to your point regarding "peak resistance", I did offer "ultimate" as an alternative in my comment :-)

Of course, no literal option works...but it is about resistance to leaving the virtual space.

I heard the words spouting from his[her] mouth but couldn't believe this was anything other but a nightmare, a virtual space I could get out of at any time [see above]
