My comment:

flamígero, ra.
(Del lat. flammĭger, -ĕra).
1. adj. Que arroja o despide llamas.
*****2. adj. Que imita su forma.****

Here, the reflections are like a fire with shooting flames...here the reflections are being compared to flames that shoot out of a fire..or shoot up from a fire. The reflections shoot upwards like flames is my reading...

arrancar is to tear something away from something.
The baby was torn from his mother's arms.
El nene se arranco de los brazos de su mama.

It sounds like the scene is at night....

My comment:

It would have been good to know the noun for negra in order to complete your your sentence or may be suggest something more poetic, but that is the general idea.
A guess would be: producing (or forming) fire (or flame) reflections on the black waters.

Thanks, Margarita. The noun is "superficie del agua". I understand the meaning of the phrase, it's just that "flamígeros" is usually used to describe very ornate gothic style, and I would like to find a more poetic translation.

Then, I would suggest "on the black water surface". Actually, the first meaning of "flamigero" es según la RAE: "Que arroja o despide llamas", so no problem there. Another suggestion: ... advanced slowly reflecting flames on the dark waters.
