Proven Translators
Alexander Savvin

   INTERVIEW:

Alexander Savvin
Q.  How did you come to the translation business?

A.  It was when I was studying IT in Moscow Institute of Radio engineering, Electronics and Automation. We had a great English language teacher there - he could explain in plain words virtually everything that was related to the English language. I was so impressed that I made up my mind to become a translator and here I am!

Q.  What was the most critical or challenging situation as a translator and how did you manage it?

A.  It was when I had to proof read a 54.000 words project, using TRADOS to prepare TMs in 3 days. It was quite a challenge but I coped up with that, thanks God!

Q.  What was the funniest event in your career as a translator?

A.  As I work in only one language pair: English<>Russian, you can imagine my surprise when one of my clients emailed me a huge assignment for translation from... Greek into ...Ukrainian! I certainly notified the client that I did not work in the required language combination and later on have translated quite a lot of documents into Russian (from English, of course)!
