INTERVIEW:
 Alexandre Silva
|
Q. How did you come to the translation business?
A. In 1984 I was contracted as an IBM employment and, in 1985, I was transferred the IBM Translation Center in Portugal. I worked there during almost 10 years and, in 1994, I left IBM and I setup my own company. |
Q. What was the most critical or challenging situation as a translator and how did you manage it?
A. In 1997, a client ordered a job with about 100000 words to be translated into Brazilian Portuguese. One week before the deadline, the client informed that the target language was European Portuguese and not Brazilian Portuguese. So, we negotiated new deadlines for projects we're doing in that time and everybody worked almost day and night to convert the work already done. Hopefully, we did it and now this is one of our better clients.
Q. What was the funniest event in your career as a translator?
A. When I had to setup and give a course of Translation Manager tool in IBM Portugal without manuals or any special course.
