Proven Translators
Helena El Masri

   INTERVIEW:

Helena El Masri
Q.  How did you come to the translation business?

A.  I started working as an Interpreter after passing my DPSI examand from that a Diploma in Translation sounded like a wise choice because I wanted to start working full time on a freelance basis. I wanted tohave acareerbut still have time for my two children, therefore workingfrom home was the only way to combine both.

Q.  What was the most critical or challenging situation as a translator and how did you manage it?

A.  Every translation is a challenge and that is what fascinates me in this profession. I'm passionate about my work and when I find a challenge or problem I do research. The best wayto solve a problem is to learn about it inside out. If you research and learn as much as possible about what posed the problem, it then becomes an achieved success.

Q.  What was the funniest event in your career as a translator?

A.  The event wasn't particularly funny but what happened was. I had the flu once and my 7 year old daughter asked me if I had any translations I needed to finish because she could very well take over if I wanted her to... she even went on to explain that she knew how to consult the dictionary and that she could answer the phone... bless her!
