3-SUBSTITUTED-8-SUBSTITUTED-3H-IMIDAZOTETRAZIN-4-ONE COMPOUNDS AS ANTI-SCARRING AGENTS AND METHODS THEREOF

The present invention pertains generally to the field of therapeutic compounds, and more specifically to 3-substituted-8-substituted-3H-imidazotetrazin-4-one compounds of formula (I), wherein A and B are as defined herein. Said compounds were shown to have a significant anti-scarring activity and are therefore advantageously useful as wound-healing agents. The invention also relates to compositions containing therapeutically effective amounts of such anti-scarring agents and methods for delivering them to a skin region so as to reduce scarring. In one embodiment, said compositions comprise one or more anti-osteopontin agents in amounts effective to downregulate expression of osteopontin at and/or around a wound site. Said one or more anti-osteopontin agents can be delivered topically using a patient-controlled, hand-operated applicator. In another embodiment, the invention includes methods for treating a subject having or suspected of having or predisposed to, or at risk for, any diseases, disorders and/or conditions characterized in whole or in part by a wound or a tissue in need of repair. Finally, the present invention provides for an increase in the rate, extent and/or quality of wound healing through the use of anti-osteopontin agents, alone or in combination with one or more anti-connexin agents ameliorating fibrosis and inflammation.
