English > Samoan: Term for book
I am writing a book with a 300 year old Samoan warrior as a supporting character. He is training the main character and I am looking for an old, endearing term that the Samoan warrior would call the younger male student. The student is his first and only student, and while neither are homosexual, both are fond of each other in a Mr. Miyagi-Daniel-san way. Also, the Samoan is stuck at looking in his late twenties, though his is much older, and the term I am looking for might apply to a friendship as well, since my main character is twenty. Tele tama is all that I could come up with, but I would prefer to find something maybe older and with more emphasis on their student/teacher relationship.
Example of text:
"Ugh," I moaned, running my fingers over the throbbing area where Reke had planted his foot. I turned around and glanced at the desruction my 'training' had caused. Bits of splintered wood were scattered everywhere. Demolished trees were toppled and laying over each other; a trophy for Reke, everytime he kicked, punched, or threw me through one.
"You won't hit me with your head down, -term-"
