Orientation and safe independent mobility of individuals with visual impairment is an important field of scientific interest for many decades. On this field of interest there is scientific research on the ability of blind individuals to mentally represent the environment and construct a mental map of the spatial environment. Mental mapping is an important ability which is directly connected with safety and effectiveness in navigation. This thesis research the use of mental maps by individuals with visual impairment, especially the factors that influence the construction procedure and the effective use of mental map while the individual navigates.
