Japanese > English: Full-time, contracting work. Reviewer of training manuals needed in Maryland

We are seeking a translator for onsite document review that will be taking place at our client’s headquarters state in MARYLAND. This will require full time work Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00 pm. We are looking for a translator that would be willing to commit to a “trial period” for a term of 3-6 months.

Our client manufactures most of its products in Japan. They have a product, which is a “Radial Compression Device;” that they are planning on beginning to manufacture in the United States.
All documents for the production of this product are currently in Japanese. The ideal candidate would have Medical device & technical expertise, and would be translating testing documents, standard operating procedures & training manuals throughout the course of the project.

All documents will be Japanese, going into English. The documents will be mostly technical in nature. It is also important to note that only 25% of the documents will be technical in nature, whereas 75% of these documents will be production/manufacturing processes which are far less complex. The target audience will have a reading level of anywhere from 3rd to 5th grade. All documents will be translated using bilingual word files – there is no CAT tool required.


The job would be full-time, contracting work at their facility. We anticipate the hours will be regular business hours, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5: 00 pm approximately. Although an exact daily schedule has not been set yet. The plant is located in Maryland, so qualified translators in the following areas would be encouraged to apply (we would deem these geographically desirable): Baltimore, Maryland, North Delaware, South/East Pennsylvania, & West NJ.

All applicants MUST have the following qualifications:
Native speaker of Japanese.
Must have recognized four year degree in any subject matter, or a post graduate degree in translation and minimum of two years experience in translating technical documents.
Must be able to provide a scanned copy of your diploma immediately upon request
Must be willing to provide a brief translation sample at no cost

Translators can provide their down quote for this project. Travel reimbursement will be included up to daily commute, lodging expenses will be limited and hotel stays will not be included. Translators will be responsible to provide their own lodging.
