Text sample:
David the Shepherd, the Psalmist, the King, declares a most intriguing statement about his character and his soul’s condition. He realized, via his attitude and actions
towards a holy God, that no matter what he attempted to do, it could very easily conclude in undetermined failure and sin against Him. Psalms 51 was written during
the most despicable time of David’s career as king; his involvement with himself, his lust and passions to possess what God had declared wrong. That terrible failure was,
stealing another man’s wife. “And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house; and from the roof he saw
a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness; and she returned unto her own house.” (II Samuel 11:1-4) David’s pursuits and actions violated four of the Ten Commandments given to Moses the Law Giver; “Thou shalt not kill, Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, and Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife” The coveting law was one but also cover various aspects.
