Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is classified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) as a heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by persistent deficits in social communication and interaction accompanied by restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities.
