Chapter 2: When the socialite collapsed

Wednesday morning was finally here. In my mind that meant two more days until the weekend but also two more days of dealing with my colleagues at Dupont Bank. Despite the initial promise I made myself to not to return to Paris during my first two months in Geneva, I was extremely tempted to do so. Geneva was not Paris. It was not romantic, it was not sophisticated, it did not have the savoir vivre attitude, it was not the home of my friends and family, it was just not Paris. No city in the world compared to Paris. But, a promise was a promise. I knew I had to keep hanging on in there.
While brushing my teeth with the hotel toothbrush, a sign that I still wasn’t ready, even remotely, to consider Geneva home, I thought about the previous night when I had finally got around to leaving the hotel room and signing up for a social activity. In fact, I had been forced to do so by my best friend, Lucie. After a two-hour Skype session lecturing me on the importance of moving forward in life, she got me to agree to join a gym that same evening. Everyone knows I’d do anything for Lucie, even if that meant discarding my pyjamas in search of the nearest gym.
