Potential request for translation quotes from freelance translators (no agencies please)
English > Polish: Something a bit different? Book on on male-female romantic relationships
The book is a memoir-cum-meditation on male-female romantic relationships and related matters (especially my highly unusual family background and various aspects of sexuality), related from the standpoint of a person (me) who has a rather unusual take on the whole situation and who has done a considerable amount of reading and thinking on the subject – in addition to extensive experience.
I’m looking for a translator who’s willing and able to take a creative approach to adapting the book for a Polish audience. What I’d really like to find is a translator who sees herself as a partner and collaborator in the writing process, rather than a “faithful” transcriber of someone else’s prose. In other words, I want someone who’s interested in transforming my book into one that could have been written in Polish and does not at all sound like a translation and who’s willing to make whatever changes in the source text that she deems necessary in order to produce a book that will appeal to a wide readership.
Example of text:
You still believe in salvation.
– What’s that got to do with it?
Well you want to be saved don’t you? Rescued?
– From my doom? My fate? Yeah I used to think so. Told anyone about it who’d listen. But now I realize I was pursuing some outdated dream.
Which was…?
– Oh I don’t know. All encompassing, unstinting, unconditional love and acceptance. Or thereabouts.
