French > English: 12-month framework translation contract

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are an agency of communications in Berlin, Germany and are preparing a tender for the Translation Center for the Bodies of the European Union.
It treats a framework contract that endures 12 months starting from the 12th of April 2010. All of the text are concerning the field of railway (mostly technical) and has to be translated into English.

All official European languages have to be translated into English and you have to bid for each language combination. We would like you to have a look over this and to decide whether or not you’re interested to participate.

See below further information:

 There are 21 lots, that is to say 21 language combinations, for that the tenderer can bid for.

 The services to be provided mainly consist of revised and reviewed translations, but may also include revision and review of texts already translated as well as amendments to be translated, revised, reviewed and added to existing documents. The source texts will be written in one of the source languages mentioned above and will be of varying length, urgency and nature, although in principle technical (railway).

 To ensure consistency within and between texts, the contractors may be required to work on texts which have been previously processed by the Translation Centre using translation memory software.

 The deadline depends on the length of the document and the urgency with which it is required.

 This tender is a ranking contract which has a maximum of 10 contractors for each language pair what gives the possibility to decline translation jobs during that one year in case of indisposition and to hand it to the next contractor in the ranking list.

 Each translator has to fulfill certain criteria:

o Either Profile 1:
A university degree or equivalent qualification** in railway engineering PLUS translation experience*** in the language combination for which the bid is made equivalent to at least 750 standard pages (1000 pages equals one year’s full-time work); (one standard page = 1,500 characters, excluding spaces).
o Or Profile 2:
A university level degree or equivalent qualification** in translation PLUS evidence of specialization in engineering PLUS translation experience*** in the language combination for which the bid is made equivalent to at least 1000 standard pages, (or one year’s full-time work) of which at least 500 pages in the railway field3; (one standard page = 1,500 characters, excluding spaces).
o Or Profile 3:
A university level degree or equivalent qualification** in any discipline PLUS translation experience*** in the language combination for which the bid is made equivalent to at least 750 standard pages (1000 pages equals one year’s full-time work) in the railway field; (one standard page = 1,500 characters, excluding spaces).
