Request for consecutive interpretation quotes from freelance translators / translation agencies

English > French interpreters needed in Bures, France, in October

Hi,
I would be grateful if you could supply a quotation for providing interpretation/translation services for a visit to France being organised during October (3rd – 6th). Please find details below. I imagine some aspects of the visit would be best served by simultaneous translation e.g. presentations, at other times e.g. during the underground visit and during informal sessions consecutive interpretation might be more practical – I would be grateful if you could advise on this if possible. The group will be about 10 English speakers, made up of members of a community Partnership (see below for details) and staff from NDA (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority). They will be hosted by NDA’s French counterparts, ANDRA.

Requirements:
Dates: Monday 3rd October 2011 (arriving at destination early evening) – Thursday 6th October 2011 (leaving late morning)
Location: ANDRA research site, Bures, France

During the visit the UK group will meet a number of different staff at ANDRA, take part (in two groups) in a visit to the underground research centre, and meet community representatives. The itinerary is not yet fixed, but can be shared as soon as it is finalised (mid Sept) to allow for further planning.

Background to the work:

In 2008, the UK Government launched a search for an engineered, underground site that will be the final home for our higher activity radioactive wastes. The Government is inviting communities across the country to talk to them about potentially hosting this site that will ultimately be called a 'Geological Disposal Facility'. This approach was set out in the White Paper ‘Managing Radioactive Waste Safely (MRWS): A Framework for Geological Disposal’.

In this, the Government said three things:
• It doesn't want to force the facility upon a community: it is looking for volunteers.
• Just talking to the Government about having this site does not commit anyone to it.
• It will be a long time until any construction starts, and during that time participating communities will have the right to withdraw from the process.

About seventy percent of the country’s radioactive waste is already at Sellafield, and because of this, Allerdale Borough Council, Copeland Borough Council and Cumbria County Council have started talking to the Government about the search for a site. A Partnership has been formed to represent these communities during the consultation process. As part of this, a delegation of around 6 people from the Partnership will be visiting France in October to see underground facilities that have been developed there. Although some of the staff at ANDRA will no doubt speak English, we recognise that professional interpretation will enable the group to make the most of the visit, and make it possible to talk to staff and community members in the required level of detail.

If there are different options for services that you feel might be appropriate, please indicate this in your quotation, including a breakdown of relevant costs.

Many thanks
