Anglais > Français : Un polar situé en Champagne. 73.000 mots

Soft late-summer light rose over the stone streets and façades of ancient Reims, a short train ride east of Paris. Once the second largest city in the Roman Empire and later coronation seat of twenty-nine kings, it was now the capital of France’s Champagne region. Its signature product evoked love, elegance and celebration.
But not today.

Hubert de Repentigny teetered at the top of the long steep stairway. His ancient chalk champagne caves lay twenty-eight meters below. As he looked down, the steps began to blur. The round brick walls revolved in a slow, solemn dance around him. Dizzy, then losing his footing, he toppled backward down the dark tunnel. Rolling sideways, his head crashed against each stone step. There were a hundred and one of them, every second one lit by a soft yellow-orange lamp. On the shadowy, slow-motion careen downward, he silently screamed, expecting each step to smash him into oblivion.
