Word or term in question:

blanquear una figura histórica

It's a magazine article on Marie Antoinette.

The whole sentence reads: Sin ánimo de blanquear la figura histórica de esa mujer, corresponde rectificar la información que de costumbre reciben los estudiantes.

Thank you very much in advance.

to whitewash .....

My comment:

whitewash: deliberately attempt to conceal unpleasant facts about (a person or organization): his wife must have wanted to whitewash his reputation.
(Attempt to) clear or uphold the reputation of (a person, institution, etc.) by concealment of faults or mistakes
