Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

General

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

I think it means something like "from which he accumulated his personal collection ( works of art)". But I was wondering if anyone can think of something a bit more colorful. Thanks

Sorry for misprint: .. museum that served him as (an) own adornment

the museum that he had created in his own home.

My comment:

Goering hung his collection at Carinhall (one of his residences), making it into a "museum" of his own.

The idea is that his "museum" is being compared to a "décor" - i.e. as others hang cheap prints when decorating their homes, he hung museum masterpieces.

Or if you want something closer to the original image: "the museum that formed the décor of his own residence"

No, as you can see in the other translations, he has not created a museum in his own home: it is the museum which has become his home.

Sorry about my comment: I consulted Wikipedia and I learnt that Carinhall was one of the private dwellings of Hermann Göring. It had become the destination of Göring's private collection composed of all the Gothic and Renaissance works of art coming from the museums pillaged throughout Europe. So he had turned his home into a museum.

Yes exactly - he made his residence into his own personal museum - hence my translation

the museum which he has turned into his own little nook.

My comment:

A bit lighthearted perhaps for the gravity of the background, but with a paradoxical twist.

the museum where it had its personal collection

My comment:

this is surely it as you suggest - or perhaps where he definitively had his personal touch
