Standard way to write a cheque in the USA

My comment:

If it were $ 1000.57 they would write "one thousand and 57/100 dollars. This is the conventional way to write "cents", and not "um mil dólares e cinqüenta e sete centavos" like it was done in Brazil years ago. There wouldn't be enough space for that in the ONE line for the amount in American checks.
Brazilian checks have two lines for the amount - from the three-digit inflation days, when we wrote them to millions of cruzeiros, cruzados, whatever. And yet the space for the amount in Brazilian checks is followed by "e centavos acima", so you don't have to write the cents in full.
