If Y/ are refering to someone Y/ don't know, you should write "Olá como vai", if it's someone Y/ know very well you can write it on verbs 1st person as hereabove mentioned answer.

Nobody can help you with any certainty if you do not provide the context. It makes a difference whether this conversation is on the phone or not, whether the asker is talking to an older person or not, etc. Here I suppose it is on the phone and talking to an older man. If it is with an old lady the last 2 words would be different. If it is not on the phone the first word would be another one. Give the whole context and I will help you better. Laz.

It could also be "Olá, como estás?", depending on which kind of speech, if it is an informal conversation or formal.
