My comment:
The material (cotton bud/swab, for example) used in transferring a DNA sample from saliva, contaminated material etc for examination. Sorry, not found a general term for it in English.
Dabei spielt der Untergrund, auf dem die Spur angetragen wurde, sowie der Hilfsspurenträger, mit dem die Spur abgenommen wurde, eine entscheidende Rolle.
