anamaria crowe serrano (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

Italian > English

Subject:

Arts / Entertainment

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

una scala sale e poi si ferma

Context:

una scala sale e poi si ferma / resta li a creare / altre scale

Keywords:

3 lines of a poem. scala refers to both musical scale and stairs. my problem is how to include both concepts succinctly

climbs the scale and [then] pauses

My comment:

Speaking as a musician/musicologist...
...your best bet is to stress the 'climbing' aspect of the scale/stairs/steps....and 'pause' is also the correct English term for the Italian musical term 'fermata'.
