My comment:

I think "workhorse" is used as a general descriptive term rather than as a brand name or specific name. According to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Edition, a workhorse is "something that is markedly useful, durable, or dependable", A "horse" also refers to a person who is athletically strong and reliable.
