increase in reward or compensation
My comment:
"lohn" is the German word for reward or compensation. "veredelung" is based on the root word "edel" which means "noble" or "high quality" like "Edelmetall" which are the nolble metals. Thus, "Lohnveredelung" (yes, the "L" should be capitalized because the compound word is now a noun) should mean very close to a drastic increase in the value of a reward or compensation.

At this stage, I'm just using pure logic, still not having referred to a dictionary but having come across so many similar German compound words.

If it was all that easy, we would all be off work tomorrow ... What would you think a "Hasenfuß" looks like? That might be a good laugh! Unfortunately, there are as many exceptions to the rule than there are rules.
