Amanda Haste PhD, DipTrans(IoLET), MCIL, CL  See profile asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

Sciences / Non-fiction books

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

force tellurique

Context:

"L'Anthropocène est un nouveau moment de l’histoire de la Terre, dans laquelle les activités humaines sont devenues force tellurique."

I realize 'tellurique' usually equates to 'earth' or 'land' but I'm struggling to find a good (and hopefully elegant) phrase. 'Earth force' sounds clumsy.

Keywords:

Climate change

The answer of   See profile was rated best

human activities have grown into a geological force.

My comment:

Wikipedia parle aussi de "force géologique".
