Barbara Cochran (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

General

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

un petit joueur de guitare

Context:

I was unable to determine, by looking at an image of one of the works in question, if the young child is actually playing a lute. Thanks

A youngster playing the guitar kept charming the lovers...

My comment:

I do see something which looks like a guitar in a painting entitled "Concert Champêtre". The player is on the left. The instrument is similar to the one played by the maiden in a painting by Jan Vermeer van Delft entitled "La Joueuse de Guitare, dating back to the XVIIth century (cf Wikipedia: la guitare) .
