Peut-être le Reichsmarschall n’avait-il que l’arrière-pensée de s’en faire des obligés par cette invitation et de se les concilier pour plus tard, autre moyen d’arriver à ses fins. D’autre part, comment ne pas imaginer avec quelle orgueilleuse satisfaction il eût ouvert, à ces connaisseurs venus du Louvre, le musée dont il avait fait son propre décor ! I think it means something like "from which he accumulated his personal collection ( works of art)". But I was wondering if anyone can think of something a bit more colorful. Thanks

Goering hung his collection at Carinhall (one of his residences), making it into a "museum" of his own.
