First of all, I am assuming a gap between the two "s"s.
Then, I came across the following passage in a "Citreon C6" Catalogue :
"Une prestation acoustique et vibratoire de haut niveau apporte au conducteur et à ses occupants le plaisir et le confort d’un habitacle à l’ambiance feutrée.
C’est pourquoi, chaque C6 est contrôlée sur une piste d’essai intégrant diverses zones sévèrisées ( zones pavées, bosselées, ...) afin de s’assurer que toutes les prestations telles que le confort acoustique ou encore le confort de suspension sont à même de satisfaire le client."

In the context, this would mean that a particular zone of testing is split up into discrete and varied sub-zones for the thorough testing of a vehicle or other machine.
