My comment:

Pali is actually a north Indian old language.Most of Buddish books are written in Pali language. Now a days in Himalayn region like Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh of India we see the use of Pali langusge. Because for the influence of Buddish religion. But in northen india it is very rarely used, because less influence of Buddhism.
