Wenn nicht um Gottes Segen gebeten wird, ist meist eine Art "Absegnung" bzw. Zustimmung zu etwas gemeint.

My comment:

1. in eher traditionellen Familienstrukturen ist es üblich, vor der Hochzeit, den Vater (die Eltern) der Braut um den Segen zu bitten
2. auch in religiösem Kontext möglich: z.B. um (Gottes) Segen bitten
