I think that this type of rain is not just about quantity because "Rauschend"relates to noise. Although I would agree more with this translation than with the word "pouring". You can also combine this word with roaring: "roaring-gushing rain" Gushing: http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-cobuild/gushing liquid is a sudden, rapid flow of liquid, or a quantity of it that suddenly flows out.
