curtesy--derechos del viudo; dower--derechos de la viuda;

My comment:

These definitions come from Black's Law Dictionary (BLD) and from Alcaraz Varó's Diccionario de Términos Jurídicos (DTJ).
Curtesy--(DTJ) Derechos, no transmisibles, del marido sobre los bienes de su esposa, a la muerte de ésta.
Dower--(DTJ) usufructo viudal.
Election by spouse (BLD)--Statutory provision that a surviving spouse may choose as between taking that which is provided in his or her spouse´s will, claiming dower or curtesy, or taking his or her statutorily prescribed share. (¿Porción elegida por el cónyuge sobreviviente?)
