opposizione consonante tenue/intensa

Context:

Per quanto riguarda le due semiconsonanti non tutti gli studiosi sono d'accordo nel considerarle fonemi. Tuttavia qualche raro caso di coppia minima fondata sull'opposizione vocale~semiconsonante esiste: "alleviamo" /alle'vjamo/ voce del verbo "allevare" si oppone a "alleviamo" /allevi'amo/ voce del verbo "alleviare"; "la quale" /la'kwale/ pronome relativo si oppone a "lacuale" /laku'ale/ aggettivo collegato a "lago".

È inoltre evidente che, se consideriamo nel numero dei fonemi anche le 15 consonanti con suono intenso in posizione intervocalica, dobbiamo innalzare la cifra complessiva a 45. D'altra parte le coppie minime fondate sull'opposizione consonante tenue/intensa sono numerose.

"meZZa piZZa" is pronounced "meddza pittsa". The second ZZ is "aspra" (strong), whereas the first ZZ is "dolce" (weak).
