Talking about a convoy of trucks that was transporting works of art away from French museums, so that they would not fall into the hands of the Nazis.

I am actually looking for the best translation of what appears inside the brackets. Thanks

shows quite well how the high profile of the artworks he was carrying made the difficult transportation process even more nerve-racking.

My comment:

I think it should be "leur lourd cheminement" not "son lourd cheminement" - referring to the artworks.
